AIM AND SCOPE
 
Investigative Magnetic Resonance Imaging, first published in 1997, is a peer-reviewed journal covering the basic sciences to clinical applications of Magnetic Resonance in medical fields. The journal focuses on investigative aspects in both basic and clinical research of Magnetic Resonance in medicine. It is the official journal of the Korean Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. The Journal covers full-length Original Articles, Reviews, Case Reports, Technical Notes, Letters to the editor and Editorials. Investigative Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Medicine is an open-access journal and there is no limitation in submission of a manuscript. We will undertake the evaluation of your manuscript with the understanding that the study follows the journal’s policies and guidelines explained hereinafter. Authors will be asked to confirm their compliance with the journal’s policies and guidelines during manuscript submission on the web page; and each author will be asked to submit a signed "Authorship Responsibility, Conflicts of Interest, and Copyright Transfer/Publishing Agreement" and a completed "ICMJE Form for Disclosures of Potential Conflicts of Interest" (available at http://www.icmje.org/coi_disclosure.pdf) prior to acceptance of their manuscript.

EDITORIAL POLICIES
 
Submission Declaration and Publication Ethics
 
Investigative Magnetic Resonance Imaging accepts manuscripts that have not already been published previously and contribute solely to this journal. In addition, a submission implies that the manuscript is not under consideration for publication elsewhere and if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, without written consent of the copyright-holder. All copyright ownership will be transferred to the Korean Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine when the manuscript is accepted for publication in Investigative Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
 
Redundant Publication
 
The Council of Science Editors defines redundant publication as "reporting (publishing or attempting to publish) substantially the same work more than once, without attribution of the original source(s)" (CBE Views 1996;19 [4] :76-77). In addition, a manuscript that is potentially redundant includes the following characteristics: (a) "at least one of the authors must be common to all reports (if there are no common authors, it is more likely plagiarism than redundant publication)"; (b) "the subject or study populations are often the same or similar"; (c) "the methodology is typically identical or nearly so"; and (d) "the results and their interpretation generally vary little, if at all."
 
If the manuscript is suspected as a redundant publication, the authors will be asked to provide a written clarification. The editor may also seek the opinions of the editor-in-chief, reviewers, and others. If redundant publication is considered present, the authors will be notified and sanctions may be imposed. Exceptionally, if the manuscript follows the policies of the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals (http://www.icmje.org) and is given approvals by editors of both journals, redundant publication can be allowed. Also, at the time of the second submission, author should state the fact that all or parts of the manuscript were published in another journal and the name of journal should be presented in the title paper and footnote.
 
When submitting a manuscript, authors should attach a letter informing the editor of any potential overlap with other already published material or material being evaluated for publication and should also explain how the manuscript submitted to Investigative Magnetic Resonance Imaging differs considerably from this other material. Copies of such material must be provided to aid the editor in determining the potential for redundant publication.
 
 
ETHICAL POLICIES
 
If the manuscript published has not been in accordance with the ethical policies, the authors will be notified and sanction may be imposed, according to the guideline of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (http://kamje.or.kr/publishing_ethics.html).
 
Investigative Magnetic Resonance Imaging accepts manuscripts that are in accordance with the following ethical policies.
 
Ethical Consideration
 
All manuscripts should be prepared in strict observation of research and publication ethics guidelines recommended by the Council of Science Editors, International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, World Association of Medical Editors, and the Korean Association of Medical Journal Editors. For the policies on the research and publication ethics not stated in these instructions, "Good Publication Practice Guidelines for Medical Journals (http://kamje.or.kr/publishing_ethics.html)" can be applied.
 
Authorship
 
Individual must have made substantial contributions to all three categories established by the International Committee of medical Journal Editors (ICMJE): (a) substantial contributions to conception and design, acquisition of data, or analysis and interpretation of data; (b) drafting the article or revising it critically for important intellectual content; and (c) final approval of the version to be published. Those who meet some but not all of the criteria for authorship should be listed in acknowledgement.
 
The authorlist should be finalized prior to submission and those on the author list should agree with presenting the manuscript to this journal. Additional authors are generally not allowable after an initial decision to accept the manuscript. If any author wishes to be removed from the authorship at a later date, the request should be submitted in writing. Also, rearrangement of the author list requires a letter from all the authors indicating their agreement.
 
Human and Animal Studies
 
Manuscripts reporting results of prospective or retrospective studies involving human subjects must be required to obtain written consent from the subjects or their guardians and provide information on the aim of the study and possible adverse effects of the examination. Please refer to the principles embodied in the Declaration of Helsinki (http://www.wma.net/en/30publications/10policies/b3/index.html) for all investigations involving human materials.The patient's rights to privacy should not be infringed. All potentially identifying information including patient identification numbers, names, and initials must be eliminated from images, charts, graphs, tables, and text before being submitted to the Editorial Office. If patient information is essential for scientific purposes, author should obtain written informed consent for publication from the patients or their guardians. The maintenance and care of experimental animals to ensure humane treatment and reliable results should be complied with NIH Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. Original articles submitted to Investigative Magnetic Resonance Imaging, which address any investigation involving humans and animals should be included a description about whether the study was conducted under the approval by the Institutional Review Board (with or without patient informed consent) and Animal Care Committee, respectively, of the instruction where the study was conducted.
 
Conflict of interest
 
At the time of manuscript submission, Investigative Magnetic Resonance Imaging requires disclosing any financial and personal relationships with other people or organization that could influence their work. Examples of potential conflicts of interest include employment, consultancies, stock ownership, honoraria, paid expert testimony, patent applications/registration, and grants or other funding. If the work is accepted, authors must specify in the manuscript.
 
 
INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPT
 

1. 

Style
  
 Manuscripts must be written in Korean or English and medical terms should be used and translated in accord with medical terminology book published from the Korean Medical Association. Avoid idiosyncratic word usage, nonstandard terms.Radiation measurements and laboratory values should be given in the International System of Units (SI). Abbreviation should be spelled out in full any acronym or abbreviation when first used, - for example, "cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)" - and the use of abbreviations should be kept to a minimum.
  
 Manuscripts should be submitted as Microsoft Word format and must be double spaced, left justified only, and in a basic font no smaller than 12 points.
  

2. 

Types of Articles
  
 The Journal covers original articles associated with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (Brain, Spine, Heart, Vascular, Breast, Abdomen, Pelvis, Musculoskeletal, Interventional Application, etc.), Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (Brain, Animal, Cardiovascular, Abdomen and Pelvis, Musculoskeletal, Tumors-Animal Models, Cell, Body Fluids, Quantitation, etc.), Magnetic Resonance Imaging Methodology (Angiography, Flow Quantitation, Perfusion, Diffusion, Functional Neuro-Acquisition and Analysis, Microscopy, Gradients and Hardware, RF Pulse, Rapid Imaging, Motion, and Artifacts, Pulse Sequences and Reconstruction, Quantitative MRI, Image Process and Display, Contrast Mechanism/MTC, Paramagnetic Contrast Agents, Safety/Bioeffects/Patient Monitoring, Interventional MRI, Spectroscopic Localization and Imaging, etc.).

Submission of Manuscript
  
 Submission of manuscript is available exclusively to members of the Korean Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. Exceptionally, papers which are invited by the editors or are obtained approvals of the Editorial Board can be allowed. Guidelines for Original Research Manuscript
  
 (1) First Title Page
   
 

• 

Full title, name of the all authors and address of their institution should be written in English. If the institutions belonged to each author are different, the institution that study was mainly carried out should be listed on the first.
   
 

• 

The contact information for the type of manuscript being submitted (e.g., original research, review article, case report, technical note, letter to the editors and editorials), any funding information, the address, the telephone number, the fax number and the e-mail address of the corresponding author should be included in the bottom of the page.
   
  (2) Abbreviated Title Page
   
  Manuscript title should be included in this page. Do not include the author's names, or other details.
   
  (3) Abstract
   
  Original Research manuscripts must include a structured abstract of 300 words or fewer. Authors should present the purpose of the study, the materials and method, the result and the conclusion briefly and clearly with concrete data. Five or fewer Index Words should be included in the bottom of the text.
   
 

• 

Abbreviations or quotations from references must not be allowed for abstract.
   
 

• 

The abstract must be arranged in section under the following headings:
   
  

(a) 

Purpose : a brief statement of study's purpose
  

(b) 

Materials and Methods : numbers of patients or subjects, imaging studies and tests performed, analysis methods
  

(c) 

Results : major findings
  

(d) 

Conclusion: a one- or two-sentence statement of conclusion derived from the results.
    
  (4) Introduction
   
  Give only strictly pertinent background information and references that inform the reader as to why the study was performed. Do not review the literature extensively. The final paragraph should clearly state the hypothesis and purpose of the study in a fashion similar to the Purpose statement in the abstract. Brevity and focus are important.
  
  (5) Materials and Methods
   
  The plan, subjects and method of the study should be described in the text in the order named. Describe clearly the number and selection of the subjects studied and any instructions or drugs (including contrast agents) used. Procedures should be described in sufficient detail to allow others to reproduce the study. It is essential that the manner in which studies were evaluated is explained.
  
  (6) Results
   
  Present the results in logical sequence in the text, along with tables and illustrations. Do not repeat data that already covered in the tables and/or illustrations; summarize only important observations. State the statistical significance of the findings. Numerators and denominators must be provided either in the text or the tables for all percentages given.
  
  (7) Discussion
   
  Include in the Discussion the advances in knowledge, the implications of the findings and their limitations and the conclusion that follow from them. Do not repeat in detail the data given in the Results section. Link the conclusions with the goals of the study, but avoid unqualified statements and conclusions not supported by the data. Conclusion should summarize the results and describe conclusion derived from the result.
  
  (8) Acknowledgements
   
  The Acknowledgements section recognizes all sources of support for research, plus substantive contributions of individuals.
  
  (9) Reference
   
 

• 

Start on a separate page, numbering the references consecutively in the order in which they appear in the text.
   
 

• 

All references must be cited in the text in English only.
   
 

• 

Unpublished data should not be cited in the reference list, but parenthetically in the text, for example: (Kim CS. Unpublished data).
   
 

• 

Journal names should be abbreviated according to the Index Medicus.
   
 

• 

All authors are to be listed when six or fewer; when there are seven or more, the first three should be given, followed by "et al."
   
 

• 

Inclusive page numbers (e.g. 111-114) are to be given.
  
 

•

  (11) Tables

Tables should be numbered using Arabic numerals. The title of the table should be clearly stated in the form of a sentence or a paragraph. The first letters of nouns and adjectives should be capitalized.
   
 

• 

Tables should not be longer than on page and should contain at least four lines and two columns of data.
   
 

• 

Tables are to be numbered in the order in which they are cited in the text.
   
 

• 

Abbreviations should be defined in a footnote below each table.
   
 

• 

Tables should be self-explanatory and readily comprehensible.
   
 

• 

Tables from previously published works should not be used.
  
  (12) Figure Captions
   
 

• 

Start on a separate page. Captions should be numbered in the order in which they are cited, using Arabic numerals.
   
 

• 

Write a description using one complete sentence rather than a phrase or paragraph.
   
 

• 

In the case of microscope images, the power of microscope should be described.
  
  (13) Figures
   
 

• 

All figure parts related to one patient should have the same figure number and use English letters after the numerals to distinguish each figure part, e.g., Fig. 1a, 1a, etc.
   
 

• 

Upload all figure part as separate image file (do not combine).
   
 

• 

Remove all names and all other identifiers of patient, authors and authors' institutions from the figures.
   
 

• 

After cropping to the area of interest, images should be at least 300 dip in resolution and a minimum of 3 inches to a maximum of 7 inches both in width and height.
   
 

• 

Color figures should be in RGB color mode and line drawings should be black on a white background.
   
 

• 

For initial submission, both .jpg/.jpeg and .tif/.tiff formats are acceptable. Authors will be asked later to submit .tif/tiff files for a revised manuscript.
   
 

• 

Written permission form the prior publisher should be obtained for the use of all previously published illustrations and copies of the permission letter should be submitted.
   
 

• 

Authors may wish to make written suggestions about the arrangement of illustrations.
   
  

5. 

Checklist of Requirements for Submission

Manuscripts should be organizedin the following order: Full title page, Abbreviated title page without authors or institutions, Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Method, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgements, References, Table, Figure Captions and Figures.

All text files should be in Microsoft Word format (.doc or docx). The manuscript must be written with double-spaced.
   
 

• 

All manuscripts should be numbered in the order from Abstract.
   
 

•

6. 

Manuscripts Except for Original Research
  
 (1) Review Articles
   
 

• 

Review Article manuscripts must include a structured abstract of 300 words or fewer.
   
 

• 

A review articles are generally published as a commissioned paper at the request of the Editorial board.
   
 

• 

A review article is a comprehensive scholarly review on a specific topic, but is not an exhibit of series of cases.
   
 

• 

An introduction which explains the scope of the paper is required, and headings should be used appropriately to separate and organize the text.
   
 

• 

Please also refer to most recent Review articles published in Investigative Magnetic Resonance Imaging for further details on formatting.
  
 (2) Case Report
   
 

• 

Case Report manuscripts must include a structured abstract of 200 words or fewer.
   
 

• 

A case report should be arranged in three sections including Introduction, Case Report, and Discussion as follows:
   
  Introduction: Describe briefly the general background and significant of the case study.
   
  Case report: The clinical study should be restricted to matters directly related to imaging diagnosis or radiological procedures.
   
  Discussion: Focus on the specific area which the case emphasizes and avoid excessive literature summary or explanations about previously published materials.
   
 

• 

The number of references is limited to 10 reports.
  
 (3) Technical Note
   
 

• 

Technical Note manuscripts must include a structured abstract of 200 words in English or fewer.
   
 

• 

Describe briefly the general background and significant of the technic.
   
 

• 

The number of references is limited to 10 reports.
  
 (4) Letter to the Editor
   
  Constructive criticism of a specific thesis published by Investigative Magnetic Resonance Imaging is welcome. Letters dealing with subjects of general interest within the field of radiology or personal opinions on specific subject within the realm of scientific study may also be accepted.
   
  

7. 

Review Process and Manuscript Decision
  
 

• 

Submitted manuscript will first be evaluated and reviewed at the editorial office by two or more peer reviewers, regarding the completeness and suitability to Investigative Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Modifications or corrections can be requested to the authors by the peer reviewers through the editorial office.
   
 

• 

Investigative Magnetic Resonance Imaging performs double-blinded peer review of the submitted manuscripts. Both the peer reviewers and the authors are not revealed to the other. Authors may suggest preferred and non-preferred reviewers during manuscript submission. However, the ultimate selection of the reviewers will be determined by the editors.
   
 

• 

The Editorial Board reserves the right to reject any materials submitted and to make editorial decisions to accepted material.
   
 

• 

Reviewers should evaluate a manuscript within 2 weeks from the date the manuscript submitted and forward the Editorial Board their decisions with the manuscript.
   
 

• 

These regulations will take effect on and after January 1, 2015.
   
 

•

Paper

Paper must be white, 81/2 “X 11” , and stapled together in the left-hand corner.

All papers should be double-spaced and typed, if possible. The writing on first page should begin about 1/4 of the way down the page. All pages should be numbered except the title page and the first page. Page numbers should be placed in the upper right-hand corner. 


Referencing within your essay

In research papers or any other writing that borrows information from other sources, the borrowed information must be clearly documented. Quotations, summaries, statistics or anything not considered common knowledge is called borrowed information. The easiest way of documenting your sources is to use in-text citations. The reference is given in the text of the paper instead of using footnotes or endnotes. This means that your place your source on parenthesis (brackets) immediately after the borrowed information in your text and before any line punctuation.

The information contained in the citation should be as follows:

No comma is required between the two pieces of information.

If you are citing a work without a named author, use either the title of the book or the title of the article in place of the author’s name. Remember that titles of books need to be underlined or in italics and that titles of articles should be placed in “quotation marks”.

If you are citing an Internet site, you may simply put the word Internet in brackets. If you have more than one Internet site in your works cited list, you must put the website URL in brackets.



Works Cited page

Title this page Works Cited. This page should be numbered, as should all other pages in your essay (except the first page which should not be numbered), in the upper right hand corner. Leave two lines in between the title of the page and your first source. Sources should be placed in alphabetical order on this page by last names of the author(s). If a source has no author or editor, alphabetize by the first word of the title other than a, an or the.

Do not indent the first line of each entry, but indent each subsequent line (use the TAB key). Put a space between each entry.


Quotations

Short quotations (three lines or less) are included within the text of the essay. 

e.g.
The Buddhist faith had a very interesting start. “In the beginning Buddha found enlightenment under the bodhi tree, near what is now Nepal” (McDowell 75).

Long quotations (three lines or more) are set apart from the text of the essay, as follows:

Devout Buddhists follow the teachings of the Four Noble truths an Eightfold Path. Each contains the essence that units all Buddists today: Life is full of suffering; that most of that suffering, including the fear of earth, can be traced to “desire”, the man’s habit of seeing everything through the prism of the self and its well-being; that this craving can be transcended, leading to peace and eventually to an exalted state of full enlightenment called Nirvana (McDowell 71).
